Months of training, dedication, and teamwork paid off for the athletes of Empower Sports Network as they delivered an unforgettable performance at the Special Olympics Monmouth & Ocean County Area 6 Track & Field Meet.
Competing against athletes from across Monmouth and Ocean Counties, the Empower Sports Network Track & Field team showcased not only athletic ability, but also confidence, determination, sportsmanship, and the strong sense of community that defines the organization.
For months leading up to the meet, the team trained hard every week to prepare both physically and mentally for competition. Practices focused on improving technique and performance while also building confidence, teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Whether competitors were working on sprint starts, practicing throwing technique, or improving jumping form, every practice became another step toward growth.
What makes this team special is the support the athletes show one another. Throughout the season, teammates encouraged each other during workouts, celebrated improvements during practice, and built friendships that go far beyond competition. That same energy carried over into the meet as athletes cheered from the sidelines, celebrated podium finishes together, and proudly represented the Empower Sports Network family.
“Seeing the athletes support one another throughout the entire day was one of the best parts of the meet,” said Sam Kiningham. “The medals are amazing, but watching the confidence and excitement grow within the team is what truly makes these events special.”

While the placements and medals were exciting, the biggest victories of the day could be seen in the confidence, growth, and determination displayed by every competitor. Some athletes competed in events they had never tried before, while others overcame nerves and pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones.
Throughout the day, emotional moments could be seen everywhere — teammates celebrating after races, athletes proudly standing on the awards podium, families cheering loudly from the stands, and coaches reflecting on how much the team has grown since the beginning of the season. The event was about far more than competition; it was about community, opportunity, and believing in one another.
Events like the Special Olympics Monmouth & Ocean County Area 6 Track & Field Meet showcase the true mission of Empower Sports Network — creating opportunities for individuals of all abilities to compete, grow, build friendships, and gain confidence through athletics.
Empower Sports Network continues to focus on building opportunities that extend beyond sports. Through athletics, media programs, leadership opportunities, employment experiences, and community involvement, the organization works to help individuals develop confidence, independence, and meaningful connections while giving them a platform to succeed.

As the team now turns its attention toward the Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games at The College of New Jersey from June 5th through June 7th, the momentum continues to grow. More importantly, so does the confidence, unity, and belief within the Empower Sports Network family.
For these athletes, the season is about much more than medals — it is about proving what is possible when people are given opportunity, support, and a place to belong.
