The throwing community in New Jersey is preparing for an exciting night of competition as Jon Kalnes and Studlete host the Memorial Day Weekend Shotput Meet on May 22nd at 5:30 PM at The Huisman’s Family Farm in Wall, New Jersey.
The meet is expected to bring together athletes from across the region who are looking to improve their marks, compete in a high-level environment, and prepare for the upcoming NJSIAA State Championships.
More than just another competition, the Memorial Day Weekend Shotput Meet represents the continued growth of the throwing community throughout New Jersey while also supporting a greater cause through Empower Sports Network.
Jon Kalnes, owner of Studlete, has become known for his ability to develop athletes into elite-level throwers. Over the years, he has helped coach local athletes into becoming some of the top competitors in New Jersey and the nation, earning respect throughout the throwing community for both his knowledge and his results.
One of the athletes currently training with Kalnes is Ayden Winters of Ocean Township High School. Winters is currently ranked as the No. 2 thrower in the state of New Jersey and has already recorded a throw of 61 feet this season.
Ayden is looking forward to competing in an environment that has become extremely important to his development as an athlete.
When speaking with Dante the Sports Guy, Ayden shared:
“Can’t wait to get a meet in at my home turf.”
Ayden also explained that The Huisman’s Family Farm feels like a second home to him, and after several strong recent training sessions with Jon Kalnes and Studlete, he is expecting a big performance at the meet.
According to Jon Kalnes:
“The meet is being held at The Huisman’s Family Farm where many of the top high school and college athletes train. The Huisman brothers themselves were great throwers, with the youngest, Joshua, still competing at the University of Michigan. This meet at ‘The Farm’ gives all ages an attempt to better their mark or prepare for the NJ HS State Championships.”
The atmosphere at “The Farm” is expected to be highly competitive while still maintaining the strong sense of community that track and field is known for. Athletes of all ages will have an opportunity to compete, improve, and test themselves alongside some of the area’s top throwers.

The event also highlights the growing partnership between the local sports community and Empower Sports Network.
Kalnes, who also serves as one of the coaches for the Empower Sports Network Track & Field Team, is donating a portion of the proceeds from the meet to Empower Sports Network. The donation will help support athletic programming, media opportunities, and community experiences for athletes involved with the organization.
The event will also be covered by Dante the Sports Guy, a sports media platform under Empower Sports Network led by Dante Canzona, who serves as President of the Empower Sports Network Member Leadership Board.
Dante the Sports Guy continues to grow into one of the most exciting projects within Empower Sports Network. Through interviews, podcasts, YouTube content, event coverage, and social media clips, Dante has been helping give athletes, coaches, and local events a larger platform throughout the community.
Coverage of the Memorial Day Weekend Shotput Meet represents another step in the growth of Empower Sports Network’s media division. The organization continues to expand beyond athletics by creating opportunities in podcasting, interviewing, journalism, photography, video production, and community storytelling.
Events like this help provide real-world experiences for members of Empower Sports Network while also building stronger connections throughout the local sports community.
As the media division continues to grow, Empower Sports Network is looking to partner with local businesses, sponsors, and organizations that believe in supporting athletics, inclusion, and positive community storytelling.
The Memorial Day Weekend Shotput Meet is shaping up to be one of the most exciting throwing events of the spring season — bringing together elite competition, athlete development, community involvement, and support for Empower Sports Network all in one place.
Athletes, families, coaches, and fans looking for a great atmosphere and high-level competition should make plans to attend The Huisman’s Family Farm on May 22nd at 5:30 PM.
