In the latest episode of Dante the Sports Guy, we had the opportunity to sit down with one of New Jersey’s rising stars in track and field. Meet Ayden Winters, an elite shot put thrower from Ocean Township High School whose journey is a powerful example of how passion can grow from the most unexpected beginnings.
Finding His Path
Ayden’s introduction to track and field didn’t come from an immediate love of the sport—it came from encouragement. Like many young athletes, he was pushed to try something new while in eighth grade. At the time, he didn’t quite see the appeal.
“What’s fun about throwing a ball?” he recalled thinking.
It’s a question that now feels almost ironic.
Embracing the Sport
What started as hesitation quickly turned into passion. Today, Ayden describes track and field as “the most fun thing” he does—and his performance proves it.
Now ranked No. 2 in New Jersey in the shot put, Ayden has firmly established himself as one of the top throwers in the state. His growth isn’t just about natural talent—it’s about commitment, discipline, and a mindset that evolved over time.
Achievements and Milestones
Ayden’s résumé speaks for itself.
During the indoor season, he captured titles at the Shore Conference, County Championships, and Monmouth County Relays. He also earned a third-place finish at the prestigious Meet of Champions, competing against the best athletes in the state.
One of his biggest moments came in early April, when he launched a personal-best throw of 59 feet, 6½ inches—a mark that solidified his place among New Jersey’s elite.
Years of Dedication
Behind every big throw is years of unseen work.
Ayden reflects on a five-year journey filled with thousands of throws, countless hours in the weight room, and a relentless commitment to improvement. He credits much of his development to the guidance of his coach, emphasizing how important strong mentorship has been in refining his technique and pushing him to the next level.

A Bright Future Ahead
With high school coming to a close, Ayden is preparing for his next chapter. He will continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Connecticut, where he plans to compete at the collegiate level.
It’s a major step forward—and one that reflects years of hard work paying off.
Rooted in Ocean Township
Ayden’s journey is deeply connected to his roots at Ocean Township High School and the surrounding community. From his early days at Wanamassa Elementary School to becoming one of the top athletes in New Jersey, each stage of his life has helped shape who he is today—both on and off the field.
More Than Just an Athlete
What stands out most about Ayden isn’t just his performance—it’s his growth. His story is about discovering passion, embracing challenges, and turning something uncertain into something meaningful.
It’s the kind of journey that inspires.
As we wrapped up the interview, one thing was clear: Ayden Winters is just getting started.
Stay tuned to Empower Sports Network and Dante the Sports Guy to follow Ayden’s journey throughout this outdoor track season. With momentum on his side, the best may still be ahead.
